Caleb had always prided himself on his composure. As the CEO of a successful tech company, he was used to managing crises, making tough decisions, and maintaining a calm demeanor. But today, all of that flew out the window.
He was buried in work, focused on his laptop, when he heard a soft voice.
“Excuse me, sir…I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to disturb you. I’ll just mop up the floor for five minutes,” the woman said.
Caleb looked up, ready to dismiss the interruption, but what he saw made him stop dead in his tracks. The woman standing in front of him bore an uncanny resemblance to his late wife, Anna. But it was impossible! Anna had passed away in a tragic accident five years ago.
“It’s okay…please come in,” he said, trying to keep his voice steady. His gaze followed the woman as she moved across the office with a grace that was eerily familiar. “Uh, I don’t think I’ve seen you around before…but your face looks so familiar.”
The woman smiled and turned around. “My name is Michelle, sir. I started working here only recently.”
“I’m Caleb,” he said, still grappling with the shock. “Michelle, I don’t understand why I get this strange feeling when I see your face…” He reached for his cup of coffee, only to accidentally spill it on his laptop.
“Oh, no…again!” Caleb leaped back, cursing his clumsiness.
“Don’t worry, sir…I’ll clean it up for you.” Michelle dropped the mop and hurried to Caleb’s table. She rolled up her sleeves and started wiping the laptop with a cloth. That’s when Caleb’s eyes fell on a peculiar scar on her left arm — a scar identical to the one Anna had.
“There you go…all clean!” Michelle said, smiling as she stood up.
But Caleb stood frozen, his eyes wide with disbelief. “This scar… how did you get it?”
Michelle’s smile faded as she looked at the scar on her arm. “Oh, this? It’s a long story. I had an accident when I was a child.”
Caleb’s mind raced. “Where did you grow up, Michelle?”
She hesitated for a moment. “In a small town up north, sir. Why do you ask?”
Caleb felt a lump forming in his throat. “What was your mother’s name?”
Michelle looked puzzled but answered, “Anna. My mother’s name was Anna.”
Caleb’s heart pounded in his chest. “Michelle, what was your last name before you changed it?”
“Evans,” she replied softly. “My full name was Michelle Evans.”
Caleb’s knees buckled, and he sank into his chair, tears welling up in his eyes. “Michelle, I think you might be my daughter.”
Michelle stared at him, shock and confusion written all over her face. “What? But that’s impossible. My father died in a car accident when I was a baby.”
“No,” Caleb said, his voice trembling. “Your mother and I were separated in the accident. I thought you both had died. I’ve been searching for you ever since.”
Tears streamed down Michelle’s face as she took a step closer. “You’re my father?”
Caleb nodded, unable to speak. He stood up and opened his arms, and Michelle rushed into them, sobbing. They held each other tightly, the years of pain and loss melting away in that moment of reunion.
For the rest of the day, they sat in Caleb’s office, sharing stories and piecing together the fragments of their lives. Caleb learned that after the accident, Anna had been in a coma for months and had been misidentified. By the time she recovered, she had no memory of her past life. Michelle had grown up believing her father was dead, and Anna had never regained enough of her memory to correct that belief.
But now, fate had brought them back together. Caleb tearfully vowed to make up for the lost time and be the father Michelle had never known. And as they left the office together, they both felt a profound sense of healing and hope for the future.
The scar that had once marked a tragedy had now become a symbol of their reunion and the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
